DESCRIPTION

SlothBot, the autonomous sloth robot serving biodiversity

The SlothBot is a bio-inspired robot, modeled after the sloth, developed to address a major challenge: sustainably observing ecosystems without disrupting their natural balance. Unlike fast, mobile, or noisy robots, the SlothBot takes a radically different approach. It moves slowly, consumes very little energy, and can remain in a natural environment for extended periods to collect valuable data on fauna, flora, and climatic conditions.

A sloth-inspired robot for observing nature in a new way

The SlothBot is directly inspired by the behavior of the sloth, an animal known for its slowness, energy efficiency, and ability to live discreetly in the canopy. This philosophy is at the heart of the robot: moving only when necessary, remaining in the same place for extended periods, and minimizing its impact on the observed environment. This design makes it a particularly interesting solution for scientific research, biodiversity conservation, and the monitoring of sensitive natural habitats.

A robotic solution designed for biodiversity conservation

The SlothBot was conceived as a tool to aid in understanding ecosystems. Installed in a natural environment, it allows for the monitoring of phenomena that are difficult to observe with only occasional human presence. It can help researchers better understand the influence of various environmental factors on animal and plant species, including temperature, humidity, light, weather conditions, and carbon dioxide concentration.
