Who is Thymio?
Thymio is a small robot that fits on your desk. It will allow you to discover the world of robotics and learn the language of a robot. You will be able to program it and carry out many experiments. With Thymio, the basics of robotics and programming become concepts that everyone can discover, regardless of their age.
How to use Thymio?
Thymio is functional right out of the box! Turn it on by pressing the central button and discover the six pre-programmed behaviors. These are always available in the robot. Once you have played with these, program your own behavior using one of the available programming languages. Just install Thymio Suite on your computer and get started!
Six pre-programmed behaviors:
- friendly (follow the hand or an object),
- explorer (avoids obstacles),
- fearful (detects shocks, falls and shows the direction of gravity),
- inspector (line follower),
- obedient (follows orders given via buttons or an IR remote control),
- and attentive (responds to hand clapping).

5x programming languages
- VPL (Visual Programming Language): event-driven programming language, based on pictogram associations. Easy to learn, perfect for young children discovering programming.
- Scratch 3: visual programming language based on instruction blocks to be logically nested
- Blockly: mathematics, logic, loops, variables in the form of colored blocks to discover programming concepts
- Python: Now move on to code to deepen your programming knowledge
- Aseba: text language developed for your Thymio, allowing in particular to recover data from sensors and actuators, and to create much more complex programs.
