ERGO JR: A ROBOT LOW COST FOR EDUCATION

Ergo Jr is an economical articulated arm designed for education, easy to assemble and modify. Thanks to visual programming, it can be used in schools for the realization of projects of varying complexity.

Features

Originally conceived as part of the artistic experiment "Mathematics: a beautiful elsewhere" , Ergo Jr has been adapted to meet the needs of the field of education.

It is a robotic arm, composed of 6 motors allowing almost natural movements, as well as 3D printed elements. The use of rivets makes modifications easy to make. 3 tools allowing different interactions with the environment accompany Ergo Jr: a lampshade, a clamp, as well as a pen holder.

The robot is controlled by a Raspberry Pi board , and it is equipped with a camera to interact with the world.

Everything in the robot is left transparent and accessible to promote an educational approach and interactive technology.

Assembly of an Ergo Jr

Programmer Ergo Jr

Ergo Jr uses Snap!, a variant of the visual programming language Scratch. Its ease of use and proven effectiveness make it an excellent tool for discovering robotics and understanding the digital world. Snap! can be used on the robot without additional installation. It is also ROS and Python compatible.
A set of educational activities developed with secondary school teachers accompanies Ergo Jr, ranging from the discovery of the robot to more complex use. These activities are available free of charge on Poppy Project Forums.
